T-Tapes Below I provide
instructions on how to make DILE-appropriate t-tapes. It should be noted that this is simply
"my method" for making DILE-appropriate t-tapes. You should experiment and determine the
best method for yourself. You can also
buy T-Tapes premade (this is a good source www.t-tapes.net) _____________________________________________________________________________ Modified T-TAPE
Supplies: 3M Micropore tape, painters masking tape,
backing material Tools: Scissors, marking pen, hand held
paper hole puncher Make the T-tape as
shown in the below figures (cross section and side view). This results in a
T-tape which is reinforced around the POE (point of equilibrium) and along
the 'flaps'.
The masking tape helps cut down on the stretching of the holes in the
flaps. Cut away your standard 1 inch notch, then divide the remaining
length of T-tape 'flap' into 4 equal sections. I then make a cut to within about 1/8 of
the backing material at each of these marks. This should result in a T-tape
that has 4 'flaps'.
Now, right smack in the middle of each of these 'flaps' take a hand
held paper hole puncher and punch out a hole which is COMPLETELY centered (top/bottom...
left/right). You will eventually latch
each one of these 'flaps' onto a tooth of the Toothed Ring Cap by slipping
the hole over the tooth. I also cut
out wedges along the length of the 'tail' section. If these wedges are not removed the extra
tape gets bunched up and gets in the way when the DILE is expanded. CROSS SECTION

Note: I'm now
using "ReJuveness" tape instead of Micro. I find it a bit more comfortable. Also, I position the inner layer of "ReJuveness"
running bottom-top (in 3 short pieces on either side) rather than
lengthwise. I find that alternating
the fabric in this way gives me much better usable life of the t-tape. |
